Why Am I So Bad at This?
I’m sitting in the Charlotte airport waiting for my connecting flight and deciding to use my time wisely. I had a milestone birthday in September and find myself wanting to make the most of all of the hours. Anybody else feel that way? So I decided to update everyone on what’s been happening at The Splendid Torch.
I just finished a big event at Art in the Arboretum and am busy prepping for extra holiday markets. I always struggle to keep things online updated, whether it’s social media posts, items in the online shop, anything really related to being online!
Social Media experts say artists need to share to make real connections. I believe genuine curiosity about my fellow humans breeds genuine connection.
Some interesting folks stopped by my tent at Art in the Arboretum held October 17-19. Here are just a few of my memorable encounters:
Rose from New Hampshire came by with her companion/caregiver and though Rose was largely non-verbal, was drawn to purchase a wintery landscape that reminded her of home.
A grandmother who started a grassroots effort to educate people on what illnesses were like before vaccines.
A cool lady who sends her friends cards EVERY WEEK.
And quite a few folks shared how they’re drawn to creative expression and are maybe looking for just a little encouragement to keep going or start again.
Those always touch my heart. I’ve been repeating this over and over ever since I came across it online: The opposite of depression isn’t happiness, it’s expression.
Hopefully, my new workshops will be a good option for those looking for some basic instruction in watercolor and a little encouragement. No supplies required. Look for more soon!
The biggest news for me was that this juried art fair was my first time selling original work instead of just prints. And I was blown away by the generous reception. I sold 6 original pieces, and a slew of other items (prints, cards, stickers).
Let me tell you, that someone appreciating your work, knowing it is one-of-a-kind, and investing in something you made with your own two hands…WOW. It was a special weekend for me.
Mostly I want to say THANK YOU to everyone that tells their story, reaches out on living a creative life, or shares something about what’s going on in their world. I believe that at the end of the day, we’re all just walking each other home.
I would love to hear what YOU are up to, looking forward to, have questions about…you get it. There's a real human behind this keyboard…no AI. If you feel like being human together…let’s do it!
